We discovered Bute two years ago, and decided to buy and renovate Inverbroom in 2010. Here's our list of favourite places and things to do:

  • Walk on Ettrick Bay, on the other side of the island, especially at low tide, and have a drink at the Tea Room.  There is a brilliant bird hide and you'll see curlews, oyster catchers, turnstones, sea otters and many gulls, geese and ducks
  • Look for the seals at Scalpsie Bay and walk the glorious sandy beach there
  • Drive down to Kilchattan Bay and if you're feeling adventurous, walk 45 minutes to the lighthouse
  • Walk across St Ninian's Bay and find the ruined monastic chapel
  • Drive to St Blane's Chapel at the end of the island and climb up the ruin of the 7th Century chapel
  • Explore the newly created community forest at the Rhubodach end of the island.  The five minute ferry over the Colintraive takes you to the very friendly gastropub, the Colintraive Hotel

Walk sections of the West Island Way (see map in tourist office or in our den)
Walk from the house to Ettrick Bay (you can get the bus back if you want)
